Description
This course provides a fundamental understanding of the operation of power networks from a control and optimization perspective. Students will learn how mathematical tools and computational methods are used for the design, modeling, planning, and real-time operation of power grids. They will also learn about the interaction between operation and electricity market.
Syllabus
The course will cover several topics related to the control and optimization for power systems, including:
Modeling of power systems
Power optimization problems such as unit commitment, optimal power flow, and transmission planning
Data analytics for power systems such as state estimation and identification of corrupted data and cyber attacks.
Stability analysis for power systems, including robust control, optimal control, and distributed control
Control and optimization for renewable energy
Electricity market and game theory
Cascading failures, robustness and resiliency
Select topics on Smart Grid
